As we spring into a new season, our current Center of Excellence class is getting ready to unveil their big business ventures they’ve been working on all year! We hope you’re ready to support and celebrate these entrepreneurs, so in the meantime we’re kicking off a series of blogs to celebrate past students and see where they are now since they graduated.
In our newest blog post, Ashley Jackson shares how City Startup Labs helped her grow and scale a company that intentionally helps the federally incarcerated community stay connected to friends and loved ones through the act of gift giving.
Question: Which class were you a part of?
Answer: Class of 2018
Question: How did you get connected with CSL?
Answer: I met Henry Rock while attending Ventureprise with a former employer. He encouraged me to apply for CSL, and I did!
Question: What is your business and how did CSL help you with your venture?
Answer: I am the owner of Gift Box Shop, LLC. My company is the only retailer that intentionally helps the federally incarcerated community stay connected to friends and loved ones through the act of gift giving. City Startup Labs helped me to clearly define my business model and think of strategic ways to grow and scale. The program also helped me realize my own potential as a young black female entrepreneur.
Question: Why would you recommend the CSL program to others?
Answer: Yes, I would absolutely recommend this program to others. However, I would say that the program is not for everyone. There is a certain level of grit and persistence needed to see the program all the way through.
