Students & Coaches:

We’re NOW accepting applications for City Startup Labs’ New Center of Excellence

As it segues from a successful pilot to establishing a Center of Excellence (CoE) at the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC), City Startup Labs (CSL) is looking both for students and mentor/coaches.

The CoE will offer two innovation tracks – ENTREPreneurship and INTRApreneurship.

  • During a 2 year pilot CSL has worked to refine its unique model for entrepreneurship training. As before, student/entrepreneurs will learn how to launch a successful venture during a 15-week bootcamp, and the chance to have their business incubated over a 6 months. The ENTRE track continues with some new modifications for 2016.
  • The INTRA track is a new offering, in which student/intrapreneurs will learn to bring a new set of innovation, problem-solving and leadership tools to their workplace, with the chance to have their project incubated inside of their company.

City Startup Labs is making this opportunity available to black male millennials (18-34 yrs.). CSL has chosen this target, frankly because it’s a vulnerable population, getting a lot of attention for a lot of the wrong reasons. City Startup Labs takes the position that the perception of young black men can be changed for the better, for example, if we were to reimagine them as a new class of entrepreneurs, capable of great things.

For Student Candidates: Starting this year, we’re anxious to hear about the caliber of your GREAT idea. Keep that in mind as you think about the application. Also there are a limited number of seats available — 15 per track — so, you’ll be going up against some good competition.

You must be available for the dates April 22nd, through April 24th (Friday, Saturday & Sunday). These are all day sessions that are mandatory – no exceptions.

Click the button below to register. You’ll receive a follow-up. If for some reason you don’t contact us at

For Mentor/Coaching Candidates: You don’t have to have a business background or have owned a small business in order to be a mentor/coach. We’re more interested in you helping to hold the students accountable throughout the 15-week bootcamp and perhaps beyond. However, we expect accountability from our mentor/coaches as well.

You must be available for your own coaching on Saturday April 16th (9A-5P). You should also be available for the days 4/22-23 (9A-5P).

ORIENTATION begins the week of March 21st.
